And the award goes to…

The other night I had dinner at the Furman’s house. For those of you who don’t know the Jon and Janelle Furman, they are two of the pillars of our Youth Community here at Grace Chapel. Anyway, Jon has had a recent physical transformation. You see Jon has great hair, and up till recently has been sporting that hip, messy, long hair style, you know the kind where you don’t “look” like you’ve even combed your hair, when in fact you’ve spent quite some time to make it look so perfectly messed. Well in the end, it was that great hair which became his undoing, for it was so vibrant and full bodied that he’d occasionally get mistaken for a woman. Though Jon is in fact comfortable with his feminine side, he recently reclaimed his masculinity by sporting a radically transformed, clean cut faux-hawk (or is it a real mohawk??  Hmm, not really sure on that one), complete with the suggestion of a tail at the back. Can any other youth pastor pull off such a look??!! I think not!! I’m not sure if it’s his cool sense of style, his positive self confidence, or the repeated praises of his wife telling him he looks great which makes him so comfortable with this new look, but I must say he pulls it off with ease! So this year’s Most Uninhibited Hair Award, 2008 goes to our one and only High School youth pastor, Jon Furman! Congratulations!

Here Comes the Sun!

So here in Oregon we actually got snow in April–and I mean late April, practically May. (Hmm, I’m tempted to insert a sarcastic comment about global warming here, but for the sake of keeping this post concise I’ll resist =). Well yesterday we finally broke from the rainy, snowy, drizzly weather and had one of those perfect days. You know those days: upper 70′s, blue sky, white clouds, plenty warm but not too hot. It was awesome! A friend and I decided to make the most of it by visiting Willamette Valley Vineyards. And let me just say that sitting out on a deck, taking in the view, soaking in the sun, sipping on a cool glass of wine and enjoying pleasant conversation–THIS is the life! If any of you want to see why Oregon just might accurately be described as “God’s Country” (or God’s state to be more precise), check it out for yourself!
